Comic and cartoon characters appeared on carousels in both Mexico and Europe. Despite being familiar characters, these figures were not officially licensed.
Mexican carver Luis Ortega (and later, his three sons) carved many cartoon figures, including Buggs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, Wile E. Coyote, and Mickey Mouse. Many of these figures, including aluminum replicas, still ride on Mexican carousels today.
French carvers including Jacques Mathieu and Henri de Vos carved a variety of Disney characters, while Belgian carver Bernard Kindt created characters from Disney and Looney Tunes, among other comics and cartoons.
