Carousel Cows
Allan Herschell was the only golden age manufacturer in America that carved cows, though they are incredibly rare, with potentially only two in existence.
German carver Friedrich Heyn carved a few cows, including a stocky bull, while Belgian carver Bernard Kindt created cartoonish cows.
Cows were most popular in France. Jacques Mathieu created cartoonish 'laughing' cows with exaggerated faces, while lesser-known carver Alfred Chanvin produced lifelike figures.
The most prolific carver of cows was French manufacturer Gustave Bayol, who carved many cows, typically with lolling tongues and square blankets. Bayol even produced some all-cow carousels.
