The Dentzel workshop was the most prolific American carver of rabbits. These rabbits were produced with both ears pointed upwards or with one ear tilted down. The front legs are typically slightly raised, though Dentzel created a few rare rabbits with one front leg raised as if waving, known as 'flirting' rabbits.
Philadelphia Toboggan Company sold a small rabbit figure on its kiddie carousels--though there is some speculation about whether or not the carving was actually completed by PTC or outsourced. It is believed that only one or two of these carousels were ever produced, so these rabbits are incredibly rare--potentially with only one or two in existence.
The C.W. Parker factory produced a very limited number of rabbits. Only two of these rabbits remain in operation on the 1913 Parker carousel #118 at the C.W. Parker Museum in Leavenworth, KS.
Rabbits were also popular on European carousels, produced by French carvers Gustave Bayol and the Limonaire brothers, as well as German carver Joseph Hubner.
Modern manufacturers Carousel Works and Carousel Magic also produced rabbits in the style of Dentzel.
